Upgrading Your Sites

If you created websites with a previous version of NetObjects Fusion, you can upgrade them to later versions of NetObjects Fusion by saving the websites as templates and creating new NetObjects Fusion websites from the templates. See Migrating Sites and Assets from Earlier Versions.

Migrating Sites and Assets from Earlier Versions

From NetObjects Fusion, you can access an older website by creating a new website based on a template or by opening the website's .nod file. The best method is to convert the old website to a template in the earlier version of NetObjects Fusion and create a new website based on this template in NetObjects Fusion. To learn how to create a new website from a template, see Working with Templates.

  • If your website contains blank pictures, select Verify All File Assets from the Assets menu in Assets view. See Verifying File Assets for information.
  • If an older website file was created on a different computer, and you want to open it in NetObjects Fusion on your new computer, you must save it as a template (.nft, .zip) first. Open the older website file in its original version of NetObjects Fusion on the machine where it was created, export it as a template, copy the template folder to your new computer, and then create a new site from the template.

Saving a website as a template is the only way to move a website from one computer to another without losing asset information.

To learn how to create a new website from a template, see Creating a Site from a Template.

Adding Your SiteStyles

When you create a new website, NetObjects Fusion always tries to read the SiteStyle's images from the current \Styles folder. In NetObjects Fusion, if you open an older website or create a website based on an older template, you might see blank banners, buttons or other style elements. If this happens you must add the SiteStyle to your new website.

If you want to add a style, you must add the location, or source, where the SiteStyle is stored. The style will appear in the Style view list and you can then make the style Active so that it is associated with your current .nod. In addition, any new SiteStyles add to this location will appear in your Style view. See Using SiteStyles.

Use the following instructions to add a SiteStyle stored on your computer to the Style view. This style will be available in every new blank website you create.

To add a SiteStyle from your computer:

  1. In NetObjects Fusion, open the website in which you want to use the new SiteStyle.
  2. In Style view, from the Style menu, choose Add SiteStyle Source.
  3. Select Local SiteStyles as the source type and click OK.
  4. Enter a name for the new source.

This is the name that will appear in the Style view.

  1. Type in the path to the style folder containing the style you want to add, then click Test to verify the path entered is valid.

The path entered must include the folder where the SiteStyle is stored.

  1. Click Finish.

The SiteStyle source appears in the style list. For versions prior to NetObjects Fusion 4.0, the navigation button rollover images are blank. You must assign new rollover images to use the rollover feature for navigation bars.

Removing Previous Versions of NetObjects Fusion

Use the Add/Remove Programs control panel to uninstall older version of NetObjects Fusion. Remove older versions only after you verify that all website files, SiteStyles, templates, and other assets that you brought into NetObjects Fusion are functioning as you expect. Also, do not remove older versions if you need to share files with colleagues who still use older versions of NetObjects Fusion. Earlier versions cannot read templates created by later versions of NetObjects Fusion.
