Adding a NOF News Component

The NOF News package offers the capability to display news about the products and services offered through the website. Site visitors can find information on the newly released programs, products or services of the website. The new information will be available to display as a list of summaries or as a single news record in detail. Visitors can view information on the site, which is provided in a read-only format.

To add a News Article to a site, log in as administrator on the page containing the NOF News Admin Component.

The NOF News package consists of three components:

The NOF News Components are available in PHP and ASP.

Customizing the News Admin Component

Click the Design tab to customize the appearance of your News page by choosing a style from the Style drop-down list.

The default theme is the SiteStyle theme that is used for the current Active SiteStyle. When selected, a preview for this theme is only available from the Style view. A short description of the selected style and a preview image of the additional themes will be displayed in the dialog box.

Adding a Form in the News Admin Component

  1. Customize general settings in the General Settings panel.
  2. Describe the picture's specific requirements in the 'Picture requirements text' textbox. The default text is Picture max size: 200kb.
  3. Customize the fields settings for the Admin form in the Fields panel:
    • Title. The text that will appear before the form where the news title is typed.
    • Short Message. The text that will appear before the form where the summary of the news or the beginning of the news is typed.
    • Full Message. The text that will appear before the form where the entire news text is typed.
    • Author. The text that will appear before the form where the name of the author is typed.
    • Image. The text that will appear the picture uploaded for the news.
  4. If the administrator wants to add a piece of news, the News Title, the Short Message, the Full message, and the Author's Name must be filled in.
  5. If you enable the Required check box, the Show option will be automatically enabled. If not enabled on the Show column, these fields will not appear on the Add News subscription form on the published site.
  6. If you enable the Image check box, the site administrator will have the ability to attach an image to the added news. The picture should not be larger than 200kb.

Configuring the News Admin Component's Settings

  1. Configure the settings of the News Admin Component in the Settings and General sections.
  2. Listed below are the available fields in the Settings section:
    • Password. In this field, place the password that will be used by the site administrator to log in to the News Admin area.
    • Grid Page Size. Here, indicate the number of articles displayed on the page that contains the article list.

Adding the Article List Component

The Article List Component creates a panel on a page of your site where visitors can find a list of all the news posted by the administrator. On the Article List panel, one can find only the title, the author, and the summary are displayed, but visitors can be redirected to the full story by pressing on the 'Title' or 'Read More' links.

To place the Article List component to a page and configure its settings:

  1. In Page view, select NOF News > Article List from the Custom Components toolbox.
  2. Draw a box on the Layout to indicate where you want to position the Article List Component. The NOF News dialog appears.
  3. If you have not created a Component Suite, create a new one by typing a name for the suite in the New name field. To include the component as part of an existing suite, click the Existing radio button and select the component suite where you want to add the News Component. See Using Component Suites.
  4. From the Profile drop-down list, select the settings profile that you want to use for the component. If you have not created a settings profile, the default profile will be used. See Creating Component Profiles.
  5. Click OK. The NOF News dialog box appears.

Customizing the Article List Component

Click the Design tab to customize the appearance of your News page by choosing a style from the Style drop-down list.

The default theme is the SiteStyle theme that is used for the current Active SiteStyle. When selected, a preview for this theme is only available from the Style view. A short description of the selected style and a preview image of the additional themes will be displayed in the dialog box.

Configuring the Article List Component's Settings

  1. Configure the settings of the Article List Component in the Settings and General sections.
  2. Change the appearance of the List Article panel in the Labels and Links section:
    • Title. Change the text for the title bar of the Article List panel;
    • Show only _ articles per page. If not enabled, all articles will be displayed on a single page. If enabled, set the number of articles to be displayed in the Article List panel.
    • Link article headline to the full article page. If enabled, on the Article List panel one can press the title of the article to be redirected to the full article page or see the full article in a pop-up window.
    • Show a link to the full article page. To have another link to the Full Article, check this option and another link will be displayed under the Short Message.
    • Link Label. Type the text of the link that will redirect the site visitor to the full article. (i.e. Read More... Details etc.)
  3. Configure the Date and Time settings that will be applied to all News Components. It is necessary to change the settings for only one of the News Component.
    • Show Date and Time of each article. If enabled, the date and time will be displayed with the news.
    • Date Format. If you choose to show the date, you can also choose a format for the date from the first drop-down list.
    • Time Format. If you choose to show the time, you can also choose a format for the time on the second drop-down list. You can also choose not to show the time by selecting None.
    • Time Zone. Specify the time to be used.
  4. Choose the way the full article should be displayed in the View Full Article field:
    • In a pop-up window. The new window will have inherit the settings and style of the Articles List Component
    • On an existing page. Select the page that has the Full Article Component placed on it. The style of this page may be customized differently.

Adding the Full Article Component

The Full article component offers the ability to show the entire article on an existing page of the website.

To add the Full Article Component to a page:

  1. In Page view, from the Custom Components toolbox, select NOF News > Full Article.
  2. Draw a box on the Layout to indicate where you want to position the Full Article Component. The NOF News dialog appears.
  3. If you have not created a Component Suite, create a new one by typing a name for the suite in the New name field. To include the component as part of an existing suite, click the Existing radio button and select the component suite where you want to add the component. See Using Component Suites.
  4. From the Profile drop-down list, select the settings profile you want to use for the component. If you have not created a settings profile, the default profile will be used. See Creating Component profiles.
  5. Click OK to close the NOF News dialog.

Customizing the Full Article Component

Click the Design tab to customize the appearance of your News page by choosing a style from the Style drop-down list.

The default theme is the SiteStyle theme that is used for the current Active SiteStyle. When selected, a preview for this theme is only available from the Style view. A short description of the selected style and a preview image of the additional themes will be displayed in the dialog box.

Configuring the Full Article Component's Settings

  1. Configure the settings of the Full Article Component in the Settings and General sections.
  2. Change the appearance of the Full Article panel in the Labels and Links section:
    • Title. Change the text for the title bar of the Full Article panel.
    • Show navigation. If not enabled, the site visitor will not be able to navigate from one news article to another in the current page. If enabled, the site visitor can move from one full article to another using the navigation text.
    • Link article headline to the full article page. If enabled, on the Article List panel one can press the title of the article to be redirected to the full article page or see the full article in a pop-up window.
    • Show a link to the articles list page. If a link to the Articles List page is necessary, check this option; the link will be displayed under the Full Message.
    • Link Label. Type the text of the link that will redirect the site visitor to the articles list page. (i.e Return to the Articles; Back to the list.., etc).
  3. To set the date and time, see Configuring the Article List Component's Settings. If you have already filled these fields in the Article List component's dialog box, the information will become available for the Full Article component, too.
  4. To configure the general settings for the Full Article Component, see Configuring the NOF News Component Server-Side Settings.

Configuring the NOF News Component Server-Side Settings

The NOF News Component requires specific server-side settings to work properly in a browser. You can configure these settings on the General tab of any of the three News Components.

  1. In any of the three News components, click the General tab.
  2. Select the scripting language (ASP or PHP) from the drop-down box. Check with your Internet service provider to determine which option is appropriate for your hosting environment.
  3. Click the Publish scripts in debug mode check box to view in-depth troubleshooting information should the component not function properly when published.
  4. Select the language (English or German) of your component script.
  5. Type the location of the flat file database or file. By default, the information is sent to the db/news.csv file that Fusion creates in the Scripts folder.
  6. Enter the Server (IP) address and Port of the server. Consult your host provider or site administrator to obtain this information.
  7. To save the News Component settings as a profile that can be applied to additional News components that you add to your site, click Save Profile. See Creating Component Profiles.
  8. Click OK to close the News dialog.
